The midfielder renewed his relationship with Neil Warnock in September, several years after playing under Warnock for Sheffield United.
Tonge crossed the Pennines to Stoke City in 2008, but has been a bit-part player at the Britannia Stadium, making just 18 appearances for Tony Pulis' side.
His fifth loan spell since joining the Potters ends after Leeds' home date with Middlesbrough on Saturday, but with his Stoke contract finishing at the end of the season Tonge has made his interest in returning to Leeds clear.
"I'd love to stay on beyond this loan spell," said the 29-year-old.
"Tony Pulis has been great with me and always helps me to find new places to play on loan but sooner or later I'd like to settle down.
"Not knowing how long you'll be with a club isn't easy and I don't really like being in no-man's land.
"My ideal scenario would be to stay at Leeds for the rest of the season."
