The 22-year-old is rated as one of the best young prospects in European football, and was high on David Moyes' summer wanted list at Manchester United.
Some reports even suggested that United had already agreed terms with Sporting - which has always been denied - and with Moyes' departure, it remains to be seen if the English club will maintain their interest.
Italian giants Inter Milan are also amongst one of many clubs linked with Carvalho, who will be part of Portugal's World Cup squad this summer.
But Sporting supremo de Carvalho insists that he is looking to keep his prized asset at the club.
"There is nothing inevitable. I am almost certain, if not absolutely certain, that William will continue at Sporting," de Carvalho told reporters as he attended the Portugal Open Tennis event in Lisbon.
"You never know when a club might appear and be interested in taking him by paying the release clause.
"Now, William is very satisfied, he is happy and so are we."
After coming off the back of the worst domestic campaign in their history, Sporting have booked a Champions League spot after finishing second in the Primeira Liga - managing to split Benfica and Porto - and de Carvalho insists that he wants to build a side ready for Europe.
"We are going to have a year in the Champions League [next season], a year that is very important for everyone and one in which we want to fight again, even more strongly, for the title," he said.
"We want to have a big season in the Champions League. We are already aware of next season and our responsibilities and we are already dealing with it.
"I've looked and we already know what we want but we won't talk about names of players."
