FC Porto have beaten Hull City to the signing of Lorient forward Vincent Aboubakar.

Tigers boss Steve Bruce admitted earlier this week the Cameroon international was one of a number of forwards the club was interested in bringing in to replace the departed Shane Long.

The striker, who scored 17 times in Ligue 1 last season, has signed a four-year deal at the Estadio do Dragao after Porto bid €3million to secure 30 per cent of his economic rights.

Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ, Bruce confirmed Hull were looking at Aboubakar but maintained they had yet to make a formal bid.

"We haven't made an offer, no,” the Tigers boss revealed. “We've had conversations but we've had conversations with between six and eight different clubs over six or eight different players.”

The Tigers had two bids rejected for Blackburn striker Jordan Rhodes this week so the news that one of the alternatives the club was considering is no longer available will come as a blow to Bruce.

On Thursday, Blackburn boss Gary Bowyer revealed Hull had made a bid - thought to be in the region of £8m - for Scotland international Rhodes.

And on Saturday morning, the Sky Bet Championship club released a statement on their official website stating their intention of keeping hold of the prolific 24-year-old.

The statement said: "The owners of Blackburn Rovers wish to reassure fans that their intention is not to sell Jordan Rhodes as they, along with the manager and board of directors, feel that he is integral to our bid to gain promotion back to the Premier League."
