Burnett's boys fail to ride luck

Dagenham & Redbridge boss Wayne Burnett felt his side were lucky to be awarded their penalty in a 1-1 home draw against Morecambe.

A controversial 52nd-minute Dagenham penalty from Medy Eliot was cancelled out by an 89th-minute equaliser from Morecambe captain Mark Hughes. Commenting on the penalty decision, Burnett said: "I think we were a little bit fortunate to get the penalty. "If it had been given against my team, I'd have felt a little bit hard done by. "But we managed to convert it and go 1-0 up, but we didn't exert any real pressure after that. "When you're only 1-0, the opposition have always got a chance to get back in the game" Luke Norris' shot was adjudged to have been blocked by Chris McCready's hand, although there was little the defender could have done to get out of the way. Elito coolly dispatched the resulting spot kick into the bottom right of Barry Roche's goal. Dagenham have now gone seven games without a home victory and Burnett could not hide his disappointment at his team's recent run of form. "We started off so well, our home form was so good, and now it's not so good," he added. "I don't think we've won for six games at home, but we've been better away from home. "It's disappointing, very disappointing. We've conceded late on now twice in less than two weeks so we know we have work on that ." As Dagenham looked to close out the match, Morecambe captain Hughes rescued a point for the Lancashire side with a composed finish from a tight angle in the last minute.
