Bentley hails Ellison stunner

Morecambe boss Jim Bentley gave special praise to Kevin Ellison, who scored a wonder goal in the 3-0 win over Rochdale.

The Shrimps took the lead after nine minutes through central defender Chris McCready. Ryan Williams swung in a right wing corner and McCready evaded his marker to stab the ball past Josh Lillis from close range to give his side the perfect start. From there, Rochdale enjoyed the greater share of possession and had a golden chance to level the scores when Terry Gornell turned past McCready but saw his shot superbly saved by Barry Roche low down. Ellison doubled the home side's advantage with a 35 volley that flew past Josh Lillis and Andy Fleming made it 3-0 three minutes later with a goal from 12 yards after Jack Redshaw stepped over a Will Haining cross. Bentley said: "Kev's goal was the best I have ever seen on this ground. It was a world class volley that people would have been talking about for years if it was in the Premier League. "It also came at a great time for us as Rochdale were having the better of the possession and were threatening us. "But although Kev will quite rightly grab the headlines this was a superb team performance overall. I thought our defenders and goalkeeper were brilliant and Stewart Drummond once again showed why he has played so long at this level."
