Buffon set to stay with Juve

Juventus boss Didier Deschamps has stated that Gianluigi Buffon will remain at the club.

Juventus boss Didier Deschamps has stated that World Cup-winning keeper Gianluigi Buffon will remain at the club despite their relegation to Serie B.

The Old Lady of Italian football were sent down to the second tier after being found guilty of match fixing.

The exodus has already started, with Lilian Thuram, Fabio Cannavaro, Emerson and Gianluca Zambrotta heading for pastures new.

Talisman Alessandro Del Piero has, though, pledged to stay in Turin and Buffon seems set to follow suit.

"We have managed to keep the goalkeeper. I am 100 percent certain that Buffon is staying," said Deschamps.

"It is important that we have managed to keep a world-class goalkeeper and a world-class striker, so that we are well covered at both sides of the pitch.

"Currently, four players have left, but I am hopeful some others will decide to stay with us."

Deschamps is also attempting to persuade France star David Trezeguet to stay with the club.

"It is important that we keep Trezeguet because his worth is undeniable. Also I have the added advantage of knowing him very well from when we played together.

"I spoke to him before the sentence, but he is on holiday now and we must wait for him to come back before we know what his decision will be. It's up to him."
