The 34-year-old midfielder will see his current deal in Turin expire at the end of the 2013/14 campaign.
Still considered to be one of the finest playmakers in Europe, the World Cup winner is showing no signs of slowing down.
He admits it is his intention to continue competing at the top level for a few years yet, but is reluctant to speculate on where those appearances will be made.
Speaking after Italy's 1-1 draw with Germany in an international friendly on Friday, Pirlo said: "My future? There is the rest of the season to talk about it. We'll see.
"I am optimistic. I want to keep playing because I'm good and enjoy it.
"I don't know if it will be at Juventus or another team."
Pirlo joined Juve from AC Milan in 2011 and has seen the Rossoneri struggle at times in his absence.
He added on his former employers: "I am sorry to see Milan in this situation (10th in Serie A), but I am sure they will recover."
