Fiorentina's sporting director Pantaleo Corvino has told their Serie A rivals to forget trying to sign Riccardo Montolivo this summer.
The Italy international has one year left on his contract and has turned down the offer of a new deal, meaning he would be available on a free transfer at the end of the season.
And while Corvino claims Fiorentina would be willing to let him join a foreign club this summer, he insists the Viola will not be letting the 26-year-old midfielder join another Italian outfit.
"AC Milan made a proposal, offering in exchange the co-ownership of Alberto Paloschi and Rodney Strasser," he said.
"Maybe someone thinks they will wait till we get to transfer deadline day and make an absurd offer.
"But we've decided that Montolivo will not be sold to any Italian team, at the risk of losing him next year for nothing.
"If there is the opportunity, he can move abroad, otherwise he will stay here for another year."
Alberto Gilardino has also been linked with a move from the Stadio Artemio Franchi, with Genoa said to be interested in the 29-year-old striker.
Fiorentina have just completed the signing of midfielder Houssine Kharja from Genoa but Corvino has ruled out any chance of Gilardino heading in the other direction.
"When I met them to talk about Kharja they expressed an interest in Gilardino but no official offer was made," he added.
