Michy Batshuayi scored twice on Checkatrade Trophy duty as Chelsea's development squad reached the last 16 with a 4-0 win at MK Dons.
Batshuayi, who came off the bench the night before in the Blues' Champions League draw with Atletico Madrid, was back on duty as part of his recovery from recent injury, hitting a first-half double as he came through 90 minutes unscathed.
Callum Hudson-Odoi watched an effort squirm through Wieger Sietsma's hands as the Blues took a three-goal lead into the break and Batshuayi played provider shortly before the hour mark, flicking forward a ball that Charly Musonda dispatched to complete the rout.
Elsewhere, Peterborough booked their place in the next round with a 2-0 win over Southend at the ABAX Stadium with goals from Gwion Edwards and Marcus Maddison
A 16th-minute goal from Gwion Edwards and a second-half strike from Marcus Maddison secured victory but Posh had to play the final 10 minutes with nine men after late injuries to Leo Da Silva Lopes and Ruan Tafazolli.
Blackpool reached the last 16 after beating Mansfield 5-4 on penalties.
Mansfield had forced spot-kicks when Calum Butcher made it 1-1 with a header two minutes from normal time but after Jack Thomas saw his effort in the shootout saved, Scott Quigley kept his cool to see the Seasiders through.
The draw for the last 16 takes place on Friday lunchtime.
