Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel praised his side after they recorded a dramatic Carling Cup triumph against gutsy Cardiff at Wembley.
The Bluebirds' Anthony Gerrard, cousin of Liverpool captain Steven, missed the crucial penalty as the Reds won a shoot-out 3-2 to lift their first trophy for six years.
Dirk Kuyt thought he had won it for the Merseysiders in the 108th minute as he followed Skrtel's goal on the hour as they came from behind to lead but Ben Turner forced penalties with just two minutes remaining after Joe Mason had opened the scoring in the first half.
And Slovakian Skrtel told
Sky Sports: "It was great game in such a beautiful stadium. The atmosphere was unbelievable with the fans from Liverpool and the fans from Cardiff.
"For me it was a great game after going 1-0 down and winning on penalties. I think we deserved the win."
Asked about his celebrations after his goal, which levelled things up at 1-1, the defender said: "I lost my head because I was so happy. I helped the team and I wanted to try to score the second goal and win the game, so it was a celebration to get the lads back into our half and start to play again."

And when the Championship side restored parity towards the end of extra-time, the centre-back said: "It wasn't easy because there was just two minutes to go. We just tried to get our heads up and take it to penalties.
"Finally we won the game and we're delighted but I cannot tell you what I was thinking (after Liverpool had missed their first two spot-kicks). That's just football you know but I'm happy we won it.
"I think everybody plays football for the trophies and that was our first one and I hope there will be more and more."
