Narrow wins send pair joint top

There were victories for Georgia and Greece in Group F of Euro 2012 qualifying, while Malta and Latvia see their hopes fading. Georgia claimed a 1-0 win over the Maltese in the Lokomotivi Stadium but the hosts left it late to record all three points. The two teams had battled away to go into the interval goalless but a change shortly into the second half from Georgia manager Temuri Ketsbaia reaped dividends late on. David Siradze - on in the 47th minute - netted the 90th minute winner to hand Georgia their first victory of the campaign. That was enough to send them top of the group after opening up with two draws. Malta are bottom. Georgia have Greece in close pursuit, though, who went second after picking up a slender 1-0 win over Latvia. A strike from Vasilis Torosidis in the 58th minute was enough to earn a maximum return as a typically cautious display from the Greeks continued their push for a place in Ukraine and Poland. Fernando Santos' team take on Israel on Tuesday, while Georgia travel to Greece's defeat opponents Latvia.
