Thousands of fans greeted European champions Portugal as they returned home to Lisbon on Monday.
At least 5,000 people cheered Cristiano Ronaldo and his team as they embarked on an open-top bus parade from the airport runway into the city centre.
Head coach Fernando Santos and captain Ronaldo held the trophy aloft as they stepped out of the aircraft - named Eusebio after the Portgual great - before being welcomed home by president Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
De Sousa said he would honour them with an award for distinguished acts of public service after they beat France 1-0 in the final at the Stade de France on Sunday.
"I have to praise everyone. I will commemorate them with the Order of Merit of Commanders - that is a decree that has never been given to the national team," he told Portuguese broadcaster RTP.
The team were paraded around the streets of the capital before addressing rapturous supporters at the fanzone in the city centre.
Former Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari, who lost to Greece in the 2004 final hosted by Portugal, showered praise on the players during coverage shown live on Portuguese TV.
He told Sport TV: "Portugal had deserved this European champion title since 2004. Last night, Portugal was able to get back the title that we lost in 2004."
