Colchester defender excited by potential

Pat Baldwin has expressed his satisfaction with Colchester's form during the early part of the season. John Ward's side are unbeaten so far in League One and Saturday's 1-0 victory away to Walsall lifted them to fifth in the standings. Colchester's only defeat this term came in the Carling Cup against Sunderland, when a Darren Bent double sealed victory for the Premier League side. Reflecting on the game against the Black Cats, Baldwin told skysports.com: "We played very well against Sunderland and if you take out the two poor mistakes for both of Darren Bent's goals, they didn't have very many opportunities at all. "Their goalkeeper made a few very good saves and if things had gone a little more in our favour we could have pulled off a big shock. "To come away from the Stadium of Light disappointed with a defeat shows how much we have here."

Special

Baldwin says the players and management have been working hard behind the scenes to improve and keep on pushing for promotion. Speaking ahead of the Walsall game, he explained: "We want to carry on the consistency and have been working hard in training to iron out the mistakes that have crept in over the past couple of matches, be they individual errors or a mutual lack of concentration in the closing minutes. "It's all stuff we know we can eradicate, which is the important thing, because we know if we do that we could have something pretty special on our hands here."
