Long-serving Colchester United defender Pat Baldwin has set his sights on leading the club into the Championship next season.
The 28-year-old endured a frustrating campaign last term, when a series of injuries limited him to just 10 league starts, as the U's failed to keep pace with the top six.
However, the former Chelsea trainee told skysports.com that he expects a strong push for promotion next season, despite the increased competition in League One.
He said: "Promotion is definitely a realistic ambition and it should be one which is on everybody's mind next season because we are all professional athletes that want to win every game and play at the highest level.
"I've got a good feeling about next season and as long as we are all pulling in the right direction and we can stay clear of injuries I can't see why we can't gain promotion.
"People definitely need to take the competition into consideration because it is getting more and more difficult every year, with big clubs like Sheffield United coming down from the Championship on a regular basis.
"There is going to be some big clubs in League One next year, which will probably take a little bit of pressure off us because we aren't as big as the likes of Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday, but nonetheless we will still be aiming to match them and go for promotion."
