One of Neil McCann's first jobs as Dundee manager will be preparing for a Tayside derby in July, after his side were drawn with Dundee United for the Scottish League Cup group stages.
The city rivals have not met since May 2016, when United's relegation to the Championship was confirmed by a 2-1 defeat at Dens Park.
The draw also paired Ayrshire rivals Kilmarnock and Ayr United in the same section.
Holders Celtic, Aberdeen, Rangers and St Johnstone receive a bye into the second round owing to their involvement in European qualifiers.
The competition begins on the weekend of 15 July, with four further rounds on 18/19 July, 22 July, 25/26 and the 29th.
