Barcelona won the first El Clasico of the season, beating Real Madrid 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu

Real Sociedad pulled clear of the La Liga relegation zone as goals from from Imanol Agirretxe and Xabier Prieto gave them a 2-0 win over Sevilla.

Both teams were seemingly doing a good job of cancelling each other out as the game looked to be slipping to a 0-0 draw.

But with 17 minutes remaining Agirretxe latched onto a loose ball in the area and volleyed Sociedad into the lead.

Sevilla pushed forward in search of a leveller but Prieto bundled home from close range to seal an important win for the club that sacked David Moyes earlier this month.

The result sees Sociedad climb to 14th place in La Liga, three points clear of the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, Espanyol moved into the top half of the league after beating Malaga 2-0 thanks to a first-half double from Hernan Perez.

The Paraguay striker opened the scoring with just six minutes played with a well-taken goal, aided by fine work from the irrepressible Marco Asensio, who also played a part in creating Perez's second a quarter of an hour later.
