Cash-strapped Pompey set to let high-earning striker go

Leicester and QPR have made enquiries over Portsmouth striker John Utaka, Sky Sports sources understand. The Nigerian international is thought to be set to leave the cash-strapped South Coast club due to Pompey being unable to afford his lucrative contract. Utaka moved to Pompey in 2007 from Rennes for £7million, but has failed to live up to his price tag and has often been a bit-part player. The 28-year-old is in the final year of his contract, and with wages of a reported £80,000 a week, manager Steve Cotterill is likely to be willing to cash in on the player to ease the club's wage bill. Utaka has scored just seven goals in 66 games in his time at Fratton Park and it is unclear whether he will be leaving on loan or on a permanent basis.
