Hoffenheim have sacked coach Markus Gisdol and named veteran Huub Stevens as his successor.
The 61-year-old Stevens has signed a contract with the Bundesliga side that will keep him at the Rhein-Neckar Arena until the end of the season.
With poor early-season form casting doubt over Gisdol's future at the club, Hoffenheim's defeat at home to Hamburg on Friday did little to ease the mounting pressure on him.
With just six points from their first 10 league games, Hoffenehim sit second from bottom in the Bundesliga standings.
Club owner Dietmar Hopp took the unusual step of inviting several leading players for a talk last week, and did not include Gisdol.
Hoffenheim become the eighth Bundesliga side to be coached by Stevens, who has also enjoyed spells at Schalke and Stuttgart.
He has been out of work since his contract with Stuttgart was not renewed at the end of last season.
Gisdol became Hoffenheim coach in April 2013, securing the club's top-flight status in his first season at the club. His contract had been due to run until 2018.
