Game of the weekend
All eyes were on the Cardiff City Stadium as Cardiff marked their first home game back in the top flight for the first time in 51 years with a famous win over title contenders Manchester City. Cardiff were full value for their victory as they produced a performance full of industry and endeavour to deliver the first shock of the new Premier League season.
Save of the weekend
Wojciech Szczesny produced a fine double save to deny Fulham a way back into the game at Craven Cottage. Winning 1-0, Szczesny had to be alert to parry an effort from Adel Taarabt and he showed great reactions to get back to his feet to keep out Damien Duff's follow-up effort.
Miss of the weekend
Chances were few and far between during Newcastle's goalless draw with West Ham, but Yoan Gouffran wasted the perfect chance to make himself a hero when he missed a sitter deep into stoppage time which would have earned Newcastle all three points. The Frenchman failed to find the target from four yards out after Sammy Ameobi's cross-come-shot came off the post and fell straight at the feet of Gouffran with the net at his mercy.
Player of the weekend
Former Manchester United striker Fraizer Campbell delivered a superb performance to help Cardiff claim a memorable win over Manchester City. Campbell proved to be a constant thorn in the Manchester City defence all afternoon and he got the two late goals his performance deserved with headers from corners to give Cardiff fans a day they will never forget.
Goal of the weekend
The Liverpool striker maintained his fine start to the season with the winning goal for a second successive weekend with a superb solo effort against Aston Villa. Sturridge started the move before losing his marker, Jores Okore, and when Jose Enrique's pass from the left was dummied by Philippe Coutinho on the edge on the area, the England international showed great footwork to evade two defenders as well as Brad Guzan and convert from a tight angle.
Moment of the weekend
Cardiff and Hull City both got off the mark in the Premier League with wins over Manchester City and Norwich, respectively. The two newly-promoted sides showed they are up for the fight to stay up as they responded from opening day defeats to pick up their first three points of the campaign in front of their own jubilant fans.
