Sky Bet have responded to Brazil’s humiliating World Cup semi-final defeat by Germany by offering odds on them changing kit colours again.
Such was the remarkable nature of the rout, the online bookmaker were not even offering odds on Joachim Low’s men scoring seven goals against the hosts, who actually started the match as favourites.
Brazil’s only previous hosting of the competition also ended in shame as they lost in the final to minnows Uruguay in 1950, prompting the resignation of their old white shirt and the subsequent introduction of the more traditional canary yellow with green trim.
While Sky Bet have opened betting on Brazil having a different ‘home colour’ for the 2018 World Cup, they are sceptical of another change and are offering odds of 25/1 given the success the iconic kit has seen.
The Selecao have won five World Cups in their current colours, which were selected in a newspaper competition with the aim of being more in sync with the country’s flag.
Sky Bet’s Chris Spicer said: “The hosts must have thought it was impossible for things to go worse than the last time they hosted the competition but a 7-1 thumping really was rock bottom, although we deem it unlikely that they’ll switch shirt colours again given the success they’ve achieved in it.
“It’s fair to say it was a good result in our correct score and scorecast markets with such an unforeseeable result.
“We would have offered odds of around 500/1 for 7-1 to be the correct score had it been requested, while there was a few punters holding Thomas Muller and Germany 6-0 scorecasts at 1000/1.”
