Fry insists striker will not be leaving London Road

Peterborough United's director of football Barry Fry insists that Craig Mackail-Smith is going nowhere after the club rejected three bids for the in-demand striker. Mackail-Smith has scored 43 goals in 97 appearances for the Posh since joining in January 2007 for a bargain fee of £125,000 from Dagenham & Redbridge. He has previously been linked with the likes of Celtic and Fry confirmed the 25-year-old has again attracted interest during the summer. "We've had three clubs in for Craig Mackail-Smith during the summer transfer window and we have turned down all three of them," Fry told skysports.com. "We are not interested in selling him. Everyone has got a price in this game, but those three bids were nowhere near our valuation of him."

Injury worry

Mackail-Smith has been struggling with a groin injury and was sent to Manchester United's training ground for scans on the problem last weekend. The forward is not giving up hope of being fit for the opening game of the season against Derby County on 8th August and Fry admits it would be a blow to be without him. He added: "He was in the training camp at Spain last week and he had a scan yesterday, so we will have to wait and see what that reveals. "He played with the injury for the majority of last season and it didn't stop him running about and scoring goals, but we'll be absolutely gutted if he is unavailable for the start of the season." Fry also revealed that fellow striker Scott Rendell almost left London Road this week, after the club accepted a bid from Blue Square Premier outfit York City, but the former Cambridge United man turned down the move. "We've accepted a deal for Scott Rendell from York City, but he has turned it down. We also accepted a bid for Rene Howe, but he also rejected the move. "There are four or five clubs still interested in Shane Blackett and Danny Blanchett is on trial with Port Vale, but I've not spoke to Micky Adams since he played for them last week. There are a few opportunities for some of them to move on, but they haven't as yet."
