Kasper Schmeichel - Leicester
Leicester manager Nigel Pearson was full of praise for goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel after the Foxes edged out 10-man Huddersfield 2-1. The 26-year-old made several fine saves throughout as Jamie Vardy's strike and Anthony Gerrard's own goal proved enough to hand defeat to Huddersfield, who reduced the deficit through Paul Konchesky putting into his own net before James Vaughan was sent off late on. "Since I have been at the club he has won us an awful lot of points," said Pearson of Schmeichel.
Phil Edwards - Burton
League Two leaders Chesterfield suffered a surprise 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Burton after Adam McGurk scored twice in a four-minute spell early in the first half. Despite shading the rest of the game, the league leaders could not find a response thanks to an organised defensive showing from Gary Rowett's men. Versatile defender Edwards, who joined Albion on a one-year deal this summer, put in a solid shift.
Neill Collins - Sheffield United
The Blades picked up just their second win in 16 league games after beating Port Vale 2-1 at Bramall Lane. A 12th-minute header from the experienced former Wolves and Leeds centre-back Collins put the Blades in front before Adam Yates scored a fantastic equaliser on the stroke of half-time. Michael Doyle scored the vital winning goal with a little under 15 minutes remaining to give United's fans a rare home success. The win also helped Chris Morgan's side out of the relegation zone.
Bondz N'Gala - Portsmouth
N'Gala's fourth-minute header was enough for Portsmouth to beat Bury 1-0. The giant centre-back scored two headers against Rochdale in Pompey's last home game and rose highest once more to guide a Ricky Holmes out-swinging corner past Brian Jensen for the winner. In an eventful game for the former Yeovil defender, he was lucky not to have been shown a straight red when a high and late lunge on debutant Danny Hylton was only deemed worthy of a yellow card by referee Carl Berry.
Genseric Kusunga - Oldham
Carlisle suffered their first defeat under the guidance of Graham Kavanagh as they went down 1-0 at Oldham. Adam Rooney's spot-kick was the difference but a solid defensive showing from Swiss-born defender Kusunga helped the Latics hold firm at the back. The 25-year-old, who helped FC Basel to the Swiss league title in 2011 and 2012, showed his athleticism on the ground and won a fair number of headers in the air as well as collecting a booking.
Nathaniel Mendez-Laing - Peterborough
A moment of magic from Nathaniel Mendez-Laing earned three points for Peterborough as Shrewsbury were beaten 1-0 at London Road. With little to choose between the two sides, the winger struck the only goal of the game in stunning style in the 64th minute - only two minutes after he had been introduced from bench by Posh manager Darren Ferguson. The 21-year-old collected a pass from skipper Tommy Rowe, cut inside from the left flank and steered a 20-yard shot past goalkeeper Chris Weale.
Liam Sercombe - Exeter
Liam Sercombe scored a double as Scunthorpe's six-match unbeaten league run came to an end at the hands of the Grecians. The visitors, beaten only once on their travels this season, snatched the lead against the run of play 11 minutes before the break as Sercombe drilled home an excellent right-foot shot from the edge of the box and he struck the third following a wonder strike from midfield man Arron Davies, tucking his shot inside the far post from a low-right wing cross. Sam Parkin rounded off a 4-0 win.
Scott Arfield - Burnley
Scott Arfield's header earned Burnley a 1-0 win over Ipswich which kept Burnley at the top of the Championship. David Jones fed Kieran Trippier on the right-hand side and his low cross was headed into the far corner by Arfield for his fourth goal of the season to give the Clarets their ninth win in 10 matches. Victory also extended Burnley's lead at the top of the Sky Bet Championship following QPR's draw at Millwall.
Kevin Lisbie - Leyton Orient
The experienced striker helped himself to two goals as Orient retained top spot in League One with a comfortable 4-0 win at 10-man Tranmere. Lisbie opened the scoring after Lloyd James waltzed into the penalty area before cutting the ball back for the inform striker to volley in his 10 goal of the season. And he doubled his tally when his nonchalant flick diverted Dean Cox's miss-hit shot into the top corner of the net. Cox and Shaun Batt wrapped up the win as the east Londoners extended their unbeaten start to the season to 12 games.
Jamie Ward - Derby
Two goals from striker Ward helped the Rams on their way to a 3-2 victory at Watford in a pulsating encounter at Vicarage Road. Both sides scored inside the opening 12 minutes, with Fernando Forestieri equalising after Ward's opener. The 27-year-old restored Derby's lead in first-half injury-time and, though Watford levelled again through Lewis McGugan, substitute Conor Sammon had the final word with an 88th-minute winner.
Ross McCormack - Leeds
The Scotland international produced a fine first-half display as Leeds thrashed Birmingham 4-0 to record back-to-back home Championship wins. McCormack was twice the victim of desperate saves by Birmingham goalkeeper Darren Randolph before making it third time lucky in the 18th minute for his sixth goal of the season. He then played a major part in the next two goals from Rodolph Austin and Matt Smith and it was Smith who rounded off a comprehensive win with a fourth 16 minutes from time.
