Pierre Emerick Aubameyang named African Footballer of the Year

Borussia Dortmund and Gabon forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been crowned African Footballer of the Year for 2015.

Aubameyang, who scored 43 goals for club and country during 2015, becomes the first player from Gabon to win the award.

Having missed training with Dortmund earlier this week, the 26-year-old has been linked with a move to England in newspaper reports over recent days with Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool the names claimed to be in the frame.

Aubameyang signed a new contract with Dortmund last summer keeping him at the club until 2020 but his red-hot form this year has seen him score 26 goals in 26 appearances to alert Europe's finest.

Manchester City and Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure finished as runner-up, failing in his bid to win the accolade for a fifth successive year. 

Swansea and Ghana forward Andre Ayew finished third in the voting. It is only the second time Ayew has finished in the top three, having also been voted into third place in 2011. 

Toure said: "I am disappointed but that won't take anything from anybody. I am sure Andre is also disappointed after what he did last year.
