The Liverpool defender fell ill when he was on a trip home to Abidjan prior to meeting up with the squad at a pre-World Cup training camp in Dallas.
Team doctor Cyrille Dah told the Ivorian Football Federation website: "Since Wednesday Kolo has been having treatment and this treatment will end on Friday. We have therefore told him to rest.
"He will not participate in the match against Bosnia-Herzegovina, but will return early next week."
The 33-year-old former Arsenal and Manchester City centre-back did not feature regularly for Liverpool last season but has been capped more than 100 times by his country.
Ivory Coast begin their World Cup campaign against Japan in Recife on 14 June prior to matches against Colombia and Greece.
