Veteran Kazuyoshi Miura signs extended deal with Yokohama

Japanese striker Kazuyoshi Miura will continue to play professional football into his 49th year after signing a new 12-month deal with Yokohama FC.

The J2 League side announced the extention to his current contract at 11:11 am on November 11 in a tribute to the player - known to fans as King Kazu -  who wears the No 11 shirt.

Miura, who scored 55 goals in 89 appearances for his country, extended his record as the oldest scorer in Japanese football in June when he scored the winner in a second division match four months after his 48th birthday, although he has not featured of late because of a thigh injury.

He began his career with Santos in Brazil in 1986 and as played for a number of clubs since, including Dinamo Zagreb and loan spells with Genoa and Sydney FC.

Miura, who has scored three times in 16 appearances this season, said: "I'm thankful to the club, staff and supporters who always offer me support. I will continue to give everything I have for the team."
