Chile move top of qualifying group

Chile moved top of the South American World Cup qualifying section with a 2-0 win over Venezuela. The Chileans looked like being held by Venezuela in Puerto La Cruz, but they grabbed two late goals to clinch the win. After 85 minutes, Sporting Lisbon's Matias Fernandez fired his side ahead before Charles Aranguiz added a second in injury time. Venezuela coach Cesar Farias was gracious in defeat. "Chile deserved the victory," he said. "They took advantage of every situation they had and we didn't." Chile now top the standings with 12 points, two ahead of Argentina, who have played one game less. The other game in South America saw Bolivia record their first win of the qualifiers with a 3-1 success over Paraguay in La Paz. Alcides Pena opened the scoring for Bolivia after ten minutes and the hosts took control in the second half with Pablo Daniel Escobar grabbing a brace. Cristian Riveros hit a late consolation for Paraguay.
