Honduras manager Luis Suarez has defended his side’s style of play following their 3-0 defeat to France in Group E of the World Cup.
Suarez’s team were criticised for their aggressive tackling during their 0-0 friendly with England on June 8, with the Three Lions’ captain Steven Gerrard describing their style as ‘horrific.’
Despite a number of strong challenges during Sunday’s defeat to France, the Honduran boss insists that his side are playing within the rules.
“I don't think we crossed the line. Of course we have our own style, a strong and intense style, but we always respect the laws of the game and if we don't then the referee will take a decision,” he said.
"In competitive games it is the first time we have had a red card. We didn't have any during the qualifiers.
"I don't like to complain because it is not on my nature, but there have been many comments that might have had an influence on the referee.”
A Karim Benzema brace condemned Honduras to their fourth defeat in their last five World Cup games, and Suarez admits that they were outplayed following the sending off of midfielder Wilson Palacios.
"They were superior to us. It's hard to keep up with one less player. Being outnumbered, it is not easy,” he said.
"On the second goal, the technology first said that there was no (goal), and afterwards it granted one. I do not know what to think.
"Of course it changes the match to play with 10 players for over half the match.”
