Former 'A' team coach promoted to role

Abdelhak Benchikha has been announced as the new coach of Algeria following Rabah Saadane's resignation. The 47-year-old was previously in charge of the national 'A' team before being promoted to the role and has been set the target of qualifying for the African Cup of Nations next year. Saadane stepped down form the role following a dismal 1-1 draw with Tanzania in their opening qualifier, despite guiding the Desert Foxes to this summer's World Cup, where they exited at the first hurdle. "This nomination comes in response to the federation's desire to have confidence in top Algerian coaches in one part and in another part to ensure the stability of the national team set-up at a moment when it's in the middle of qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations in 2012," the Algerian football federation announced.
