Scottish League Cup: Rangers v Peterhead preview

Rangers manager Mark Warburton has reported a fully-fit squad for the Scottish League Cup first round match against Peterhead on Sunday.

Cammy Bell could miss out though after struggling with a minor knee injury in pre-season and Wes Foderingham - who featured in the 6-2 Petrofac Cup win at Hibernian last weekend - could continue in goal.

Six players are in line for their competitive home debuts along with Danny Wilson, who returned to Ibrox in the summer five years after signing for Liverpool.

Wilson was part of the Rangers side that won the 2011 League Cup with an extra-time victory over Celtic.

"It's important to go on cup runs," the former Hearts captain said. "When you are here, you are expected to win every game you go into. With that comes runs in the cup.

"We want to win every game we go into. Our main focus is promotion but if we get cup runs along the way, that's something we will deal with."

Warburton told the club's website: “Everyone tells me that a big marker has been laid down after the Hibs game but I think the marker is laid down if we can go five or six games into the season and be in the same sort of positive mind set.

“We haven’t had our first league game yet and if we can get through a couple of Cup games then our intentions will be in place.”

League One side Peterhead will travel south in good heart, having won 3-0 at Brechin City in the Petrofac Cup last weekend.

However, manager Jim McInally has been dealt a blow after St Johnstone advised that they do not wish on-loan defender Ally Gilchrist to become cup-tied by playing at Ibrox.

The Blue Toon are already missing Nicky Riley, who is attending a family wedding, but Andy Rodgers is available after suspension and Jamie Redman could return after a knock.

McInally said: "Rangers will be pleased that Nicky is not featuring as he was terrific in our win at Brechin last Saturday.

"I learned this week that Ally could not feature so that was disappointing news, however we will look to go and create a shock with the players we have."
