Teddy Sheringham is relishing the challenge that comes with managing Stevenage in League Two.

The former West Ham and Tottenham striker was appointed in May 2015, taking his first job in management seven years on from retiring as a player at Colchester United.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Sheringham admitted that the pressure that comes with managing a club is more intense than playing.

When asked whether there's more responsibility in the dugout, Sheringham said: "Absolutely, that's the way I like it.

"Everything rests on my shoulders. I like the fact I'm there to be shot at. A lot of people have asked me why I've put myself in this position, but football people, that's just what we do.

"I was given the talent as a kid to have football in my bones, and I've still got football in my bones. I want to pass on my knowledge and hopefully get a team that's performing well in this division."

Stevenage currently sit 20th in League Two and have not won a game since the first weekend in September, but Sheringham thinks this weekend's match against Exeter City live on Sky Sports 1 HD is a good opportunity to get back on track.

"I know we're going to have bad times and good times along the way.

"Even the best managers have tough times. I'm an early manager - I'm very inexperienced. But I feel like I'm a good learner.

"I need to learn very quickly, I know that.

"We all need to step up, there's a lot of people watching us this week. We need to put on a good performance so people fear us."
