Stevenage have completed the signing of Lucas Akins from Tranmere for an undisclosed fee on a three-year deal.

Akins has long been admired by Boro boss Gary Smith who stated that he was delighted to get the 23-year-old forward. "It's a great signing for us; he's an athletic player and adds some versatility to our squad which is important," Smith told the club's official website. "He's got a bright future ahead of him and he's already playing some exceptional football, we saw that last season. "He'll bring a lot to our team, things which I felt were important to add, and I'm excited at the prospect of having him in our line up." Akins began his career with Huddersfield's youth academy and in 2007 he was awarded a full-time contract with the Yorkshire club. After a loan spell with Northwich Victoria he opted for a permanent move north of the border with Hamilton and also spent time with Partick. In 2010 he joined Tranmere and in two years he has made 87 appearances, scoring seven goals.
