Fulham stalwart commits to role with national side

Ray Lewington has taken up a permanent role on England's coaching staff, the Football Association has announced. The 55-year-old worked alongside Roy Hodgson during the recent Euro 2012 campaign, and will continue to work in the national set-up after signing a four-year contract. The move ends a long association with Fulham for Lewington, who had two spells as a player at Craven Cottage before managing the club in the late 1980s. Lewington later performed a variety of roles in the Fulham backroom, including brief stints as caretaker manager. "I'm delighted to be joining Roy's England coaching staff permanently" Lewington told the FA website. "I really enjoyed the experience at the Euros this summer and am looking forward to spending more time with the squad as we look to qualify for the World Cup in Brazil. "Being offered a full-time position with England alongside Roy Hodgson is a fantastic opportunity for me and one that I simply couldn't turn down. "I'm excited at the prospect of being part of a special group of players and backroom staff, who will do their very best to make the nation proud."
