Roberto Soldado scored the winner as Villarreal came from behind to beat Eibar 2-1 and consolidate their place in the Primera Division's top four on Sunday.

It had looked as if the Yellow Submarine's run of league games without a victory was going to stretch to five after they fell behind in the 22nd minute to Ander Capa's deflected strike.

But they were level in the 35th minute thanks to an Adrian tap-in and Soldado then completed the turnaround with a strike five minutes into the second half.

The win left Villarreal, in fourth, eight points clear of fifth-placed Celta Vigo with seven rounds of games to go.

Sevilla are seventh, nine points worse off than Villarreal, after their Champions League hopes were hit by a shock 2-1 home loss to Real Sociedad.

Los Rojiblancos went into the contest having won their previous 13 league matches at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, but they were 2-0 down at half-time thanks to Markel Bergara's second-minute header and Grzegorz Krychowiak's 34th-minute own goal.

Kevin Gameiro reduced the deficit with a penalty in the 51st minute and things became more difficult for La Real in the 68th when Bergara was sent off, but they hung on for a win to move up to 10th.

Level on points with Sevilla are sixth-placed Athletic Bilbao, who missed the opportunity to give their top-four bid a boost as they were held to a 1-1 home draw by lowly Granada.

The hosts took the lead through Inigo Lekue in the 28th minute.

But Aritz Aduriz passed up the chance to make it 2-0 by missing a penalty on the stroke of half-time and Adalberto Penaranda equalised with 13 minutes to go as Granada put a point between themselves in 17th and the relegation zone.

In Sunday's other game, eighth-placed Malaga benefited from a contentious penalty decision as they battled out a 1-1 draw with Espanyol at Estadio La Rosaleda.

The visitors complained heartily when referee Juan Martinez pointed to the spot following a challenge by Victor Sanchez on Juanpi in the box.

But it was to no avail, with Duje Cop converting the resulting penalty from 12 yards in the 45th minute, cancelling out Pape Diop's 11th-minute opener for the 13th-placed visitors.
