Rami Shabaan's representative believes that his client has emerged victorious from a number of trialists to come under Wenger's close scrutiny at Highbury.
"I talked to Wenger today," Stromberg told Sportbladet.
"He said that Rami is their first choice candidate."
Djurgardens' number two Shabaan would represent a surprise signing but there can be no doubting Wenger's ability to sign unknown players and groom them into future stars.
The 27-year-old would also happily accept that Seaman is undisputed first choice, something that a number of Wenger's targets have been uncomfortable with.
Meanwhile, Austrian shot-stopper Alex Manninger is training with Salzburg as he remains in limbo following the shock breakdown of his move to Espanyol.
Although a move to Catalunya had been officially announced, the former Fiorentina loanee has found himself without a club, and is keeping sharp by training with Salzburg goalkeeping coach Herbert Rettensteiner ahead of the Euro 2004 qualifier with Moldova.
Wenger's need to bring in a new keeper has stemmed from Fabien Carini's failure to seal a switch to Highbury in a deal which collapsed just as inexplicably as the Manninger transfer.
