What do Swansea City need in the summer transfer window?

Swansea manager Francesco Guidolin

We examine the ways in which Swansea can strengthen in the summer transfer window.

What are the areas in need of attention? And what have they done so far?

We take a look at the scenario with the help of manager quotes and expert views.

Ins

Leroy Fer (QPR, £4.75m), Mike van der Hoorn (Ajax, undisclosed)

Major outs

Eder (Lille, £3.4m), Alberto Paloschi (Atalanta, £6m), Kyle Bartley (Leeds, loan), Matt Grimes (Leeds, loan)

What they need...

Swansea only scored 42 goals in 38 games last season, so more firepower up front is the priority this summer. The Swans have already made plenty of room in their squad having sold Euro 2016 hero Eder and Italian striker Alberto Paloschi, with Bafetimbi Gomis expected to follow them.

They have already confirmed the permanent signing of Leroy Fer from QPR, but there is still room for more new additions in midfield as they aim to improve on last year's 12th-placed Premier League finish.

Who are the targets?

Swansea are reportedly keen to take Joe Allen back to the Liberty Stadium. The 26-year-old is unlikely to stay at Liverpool this summer having struggled to hold down a starting spot under Jurgen Klopp. The only issue for Swansea is that his impressive performances at Euro 2016 have inflated his price-tag and attracted interest from other clubs, including Spanish side Sevilla.

What the manager has said

In May, Francesco Guidolin insisted he would leave transfer business in the hands of Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins. "I spoke with him about my favoured shape and characteristics of new players," Guidolin said. "I can only say the characteristics of players that I want, then the decision will be made by the club."

Danny Higginbotham's view

"Swansea will want to get off to a good start because the one thing they do it play very good and attractive football. They had to roll their sleeves up towards the end of last season and they really did that and dug it out.

"They have a lot of players who like to get the ball down so I think for them, it's all about having a good start to the season because they have a lot of players who are suited to a certain style and if they're playing well, then they are a match for anybody in the Premier League.

"Leroy Fer will be a good addition for them and they are another team that do need that centre-forward as well."
