Worthington happy with a point

Image: Nigel Worthington: A fair result

York boss Nigel Worthington saw a point, especially away from home, as a decent result following the 1-1 stalemate at Accrington.

It was York who took the lead on 35 minutes when referee Mark Heywood pointed to the spot, judging defender Dean Winnard to have dragged back Wes Fletcher. Fletcher, who had a spell on loan at Stanley earlier in his career, struck home the penalty for his eighth goal of the season. However Stanley equalised on the stroke of half-time when Piero Mingoia's ball in from the right bounced around the area and George Bowerman managed to find the bottom corner of the net from eight yards out. "Accrington have a habit of scoring late goals and we had to stay switched on to see us over the line," said Worthington. "We set out to win the game and we could have won it, we competed well although we can play better. It was a good honest performance by the lads. "Now it's full steam ahead for the busy Christmas period to hopefully turn draws into wins." Debutant Dawber, 19, was the first keeper in the action saving the first shot on target by diving low to deny Lewis Montrose. Peter Murphy side-footed just wide for Accrington while James Gray's diving header forced keeper Aaron McCarey into a superb one-handed save. Michael Coulson came on at the break for the visitors and just failed to connect with a cross seconds after the re-start while Gray fired wide in a good position for the home side. Josh Carson burst through for York but could only find the side netting and Stanley put the visitors under intense pressure at the end but neither side could find the winning goal.
