Coventry gave their Sky Bet League One promotion challenge a major boost by thrashing Bury 6-0 at the Ricoh Arena for their biggest win of the season.

The Sky Blues' first league victory in six matches was never in doubt once defenders Chris Stokes and Baily Cargill put them two up inside the opening 12 minutes.

James Maddison (16) and John Fleck (43) made it 4-0 at the break and striker Adam Armstrong, on loan from Newcastle, added a fifth in the 68th minute before notching his 19th of the season two minutes later.

Burton had extended their lead at the top to seven points after Friday night's 1-0 home win against Chesterfield, but Gillingham reduced that to five and climbed back into the second automatic spot with a 2-1 home win against in-form Barnsley.

Dominic Samuel fired Gillingham in front in the 25th minute and after Conor Hourihane (62) had levelled, midfielder Bradley Dack's 15th of the campaign clinched them their first league win in three matches, and halted Barnsley's seven-game winning league run.

Walsall slipped to third place after being held 1-1 at lowly Crewe.

Tom Bradshaw converted his 15th goal of the season from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute after George Cooper had handled, but Bradden Inman (49) headed home his sixth in as may games to level early in the second half.

James Hanson struck with two trademark headers as Bradford bounced back from last week's defeat at Burton with a 4-0 victory at Peterborough.

Hanson put Bradford ahead just before the interval and after winger Kyel Reid (56) made it 2-0 early in the second half, the big striker added his second and ninth of the season in the 68th minute. Substitute Steven Davies (77) scored the fourth.

Blackpool never recovered from Shrewsbury's flying start to lose 3-2 at Bloomfield Road.

Nat Knight-Percival and Shaun Whalley put Shrewsbury two up inside the first seven minutes and striker Andy Mangan's 11th goal of the season seemingly put the visitors out of sight in the 29th minute.

Blackpool defender Tom Aldred (36) reduced the deficit before the break and Danny Philliskirk (54) fired their second, but Shrewsbury held on.

Paddy Madden (11) headed his 17th goal of the season to clinch Scunthorpe a 1-0 home win against Southend and Swindon secured their first win in five with a 4-1 win at Colchester.

Nicky Ajose took his goals tally to 16 this season with goals in the 36th and 56th minutes and Michael Doughty (58 and 72) also fired a double, while Joe Edwards (64) replied for Colchester.
