Arsenal have wrapped up the signing of defender Sebastien Squillaci from Sevilla for an undisclosed fee.
Sevilla confirmed earlier in the week that an offer had been accepted for Squillaci and the France international was heading to Arsenal to undergo a medical.
The 30-year-old has now finalised the move to Emirates Stadium to become Arsene Wenger's third signing of the summer.
Wenger had been looking to improve his defensive options, particularly at centre-back, after losing William Gallas, Mikael Silvestre, Sol Campbell and Philippe Senderos since the end of last season.
Laurent Koscielny has been brought in from Lorient and further depth has been added to the Gunners' back-line with the acquisition of Squillaci.
The former Lyon centre-half will also be eligible for Arsenal's UEFA Champions League campaign after pulling out of Sevilla's play-off tie against Braga.
However, Squillaci is unlikely to make his Gunners debut until after the international break as he will not be involved against Blackburn in the Premier League on Saturday.
Wenger confirmed: "We needed a centre-back of quality and experience if possible, and at the right price - he was all of that.
"He is a real defender and is good in the one against one, good in the air, and can score goals on set-pieces as well.
"I believe he will be suited to the English game.
"He will train with us tomorrow morning, but will not be involved on Saturday."
In addition to Koscielny and Squillaci, Gunners boss Wenger has signed Marouane Chamakh this summer and reportedly remains in the market for a new goalkeeper.
