Motherwell manager Mark McGhee is determined to keep hold of his top stars after reported interest from English clubs.
Top scorer Chris Porter was allowed to move to Championship side Derby last week and now it appears that other players at Fir Park could be tempted by a move down south.
McGhee is set to hold talks with goalkeeper Graeme Smith and midfielder Stephen Hughes in a bid to keep them at the club.
Striker David Clarkson is another who is grabbing the headlines with some impressive performances of late but his manager is fairly unconcerned about any interest that may surround the 23-year-old.
"Clarkson's flying and is looking a really good player at the moment," he told the
Daily Record.
Contracts
"But like Mark Reynolds and Paul Quinn he is under contract so it's less of a concern. Smith and Hughes are the ones who are out of contract and are the bigger concerns.
"I had a chat with secretary Stewart Robertson on Tuesday and we're going to sit down next week and look at extending contracts."
The former Leicester and Wolves boss sees his side come up against fellow SPL side St Mirren in the Homecoming Scottish Cup on Saturday and it is a competition he feels his team can win.
"As a manager you're pretty resigned to the fact we can't win the league," he added.
"We can still finish in a good position and get into Europe but in terms of winning something the opportunity comes in the cups.
"We've come into form in cup season if you like, so we hold high hopes for our chances this year."
