Liverpool Ladies suffered the same fate as their male counterparts on Saturday, letting a two-goal lead slip to draw.

As Jurgen Klopp's side were giving up a half-time lead to Newcastle at Anfield to draw 2-2, Brooke Chaplen scored twice for Sunderland Ladies at the Select Security Stadium in Widnes to grab a 2-2 draw in WSL1.

The Reds led through Caroline Weir's 16th-minute opener, bundling in from close-range after Shanice van de Sanden's shot came back off the post. A Megan Beer own goal made it 2-0.

Chaplen pulled a goal back on 31 minutes, ghosting into the area to head in unmarked from close range before she levelled on 61 minutes, firing low past Chamberlain from Stephanie Roche's low pass.

In WSL2, Katie Wilkinson's double gave Aston Villa their second victory of the season - a 2-1 win over Sheffield FC Ladies.

WSL newcomers Sheffield started well, pushing for their first WSL goal, and winger Jodie Michalska clattered the crossbar on 13 minutes when her attempted cross swerved towards goal.

But Villa grew into the game and took the lead through Wilkinson midway through the first-half, poking home from a corner.

Sheffield did have their first goal of the Super League - but an own goal - Villa keeper Jess Myers dropping Hannah Cain's cross from deep into her own net.

But Villa restored their lead seven minutes later when Wilkinson tapped in from close range after Hannah Dale blocked Jade Richards' first attempt on the line.
