David Prutton's EFL predictions: Brighton v Derby, Newcastle v Fulham, Leeds v QPR

David Prutton

David Prutton returns with his Sky Bet EFL predictions, including Newcastle v Fulham, Aston Villa v Sheff Wed and Leeds v QPR.

The Sky Sports pundit also looks at two crucial matches at the bottom of the Championship as Wolves host Rotherham and Wigan face Bristol City.

So who is Prutton tipping to come out on top? Read on to find out...

Aston Villa v Sheffield Wednesday (Saturday, 3pm)

We have seen different sides of Wednesday over the last three games. Losing to Leeds, thrashing Norwich and then drawing against Burton.

Steve Bruce looked to be working wonders when he started at Aston Villa but they haven't been able to keep that form up and I think Wednesday will just shade it.

Prutton predicts: 0-1 (13/2 with Sky Bet)

Brentford v Huddersfield (Saturday, 3pm)

Huddersfield continue to impress in the way they can pull out results. They beat Villa in the week and dominated large parts of the game against Newcastle last weekend, but in the most important areas they just came up short.

Brentford won 3-2 at Nottingham Forest in their last game

You can't absolutely rule them out from catching the top two because nothing is certain in the Championship. It's been a monumental job that David Wagner has done along with the players and if you gave them play-offs now they would be buzzing. But it would be an amazing achievement if they managed to squeeze into the automatic places.

It's been a good season for Brentford. They have had players leave the club and they have managed to work with those departures. They also have a relatively young squad.

Prutton predicts: 1-2 (17/2 with Sky Bet)

Cardiff v Birmingham (Saturday, 3pm)

You don't know what to feel with Birmingham. If you took this game from earlier in the season it would be role reversal; Cardiff would have been struggling and Birmingham progressing nicely.

It seems to have completely changed. Neil Warnock has given Cardiff a real sense of solidity and raised standards across the board. They have become hard to beat and are scoring goals.

Birmingham seem to have gone the other way. The performances strike of a team treading water.

With the way Birmingham are playing they are going to have to be careful they don't get sucked into the relegation battle. It's close enough not to be comfortable. They might have to put the managerial change down to working in the long term because it hasn't had the desired effect so far.

Prutton predicts: 2-0 (13/2 with Sky Bet)

Leeds v QPR (Saturday, 3pm)

We have seen QPR go away to Reading and Newcastle, and they were really good. They were really well structured and had a clear game-plan. They didn't just defend, they went forward and countered.

It will not be a stroll in the park for Leeds, who have got a couple of players close to suspension in Kyle Bartley and Luke Ayling, so they will have to be careful.

I think it will be really tough. Leeds might be stronger in some departments but not in others because, as happens, they can sometimes be heavily reliant on someone who scores so many goals like Chris Wood.

Prutton predicts: 2-2 (14/1 with Sky Bet)

Newcastle v Fulham (Saturday, 3pm)

This should be a good game with the way that Fulham approach it. They have a lot of energy and pace in the wide areas, and in Tom Cairney have someone who showed his quality with the late goal against Leeds in midweek.

Newcastle were held to a goalless draw by Reading last time out

Newcastle have had a good 10 days with wins at Brighton and Huddersfield and then drawing Reading, but I think the points will be shared on Saturday.

Prutton predicts: 2-2 (12/1 with Sky Bet)

Wigan v Bristol City (Saturday, 3pm)

This is a real battle at the bottom. It's really gone wrong for Bristol over the last few months, although they have drawn three of their last four matches.

Having Tammy Abraham back from injury would be a big boost, scoring the amount of goals he has for a team at the bottom is huge. He has been a real bright spark.

Even though results have not been great recently there is a nice feeling around Bristol City as a team, it's about consolidation for them and just finishing above the dotted line. But I think Wigan will win this one.

Prutton predicts: 2-0 (10/1 with Sky Bet)

Wolves v Rotherham (Saturday, 3pm)

Wolves' home form this season has not been sparkling, but they have games in hand against teams around them and have to win to get points on the board. It's way too close for comfort for them.

It shows that if a club is not managed properly consistently then it will be in this position. The team has been chopped and changed.

I saw the reverse fixture on the opening day of the season and it was Walter Zenga's first game in charge and they were good, playing expansive football. But that beautiful sunny day must seem a world away because they are fighting for their lives.

It's been one-way traffic for Rotherham all season and I think they will lose this.

Prutton predicts: 1-0 (13/2 with Sky Bet)

Fleetwood v Bolton (Saturday, 3pm)

Fleetwood are flying recently and beating Scunthorpe last weekend was a huge marker.

Scunthorpe have done a lot of the front-running and Fleetwood have slowly but surely caught up with the teams at the top. That's down to good player recruitment and the management of Uwe Rosler, who was perhaps harshly treated by Leeds and Wigan.

You always knew he was going to do well again because of the great job he did at Brentford in a similar setting without huge expectations. I think Bolton will find it tough.

Prutton predicts: 2-1 (9/1 with Sky Bet)

Mansfield v Plymouth (Saturday, 3pm)

Plymouth have been towards the top of the division for much of the season and even though they haven't been in the best form lately, I think around this time of year their play-off defeat last season will be motivation for them.

Mansfield have picked up a couple of draws on the road in the last week but I think they will be edged out at home.

Prutton predicts: 2-3 (50/1 with Sky Bet)

Brighton v Derby (Friday, live on Sky Sports 1 HD from 7pm)

After a tricky couple of games, beating Rotherham in midweek and getting back to winning ways would have been a big relief for Brighton.

I thought they looked uncharacteristic against Nottingham Forest last weekend, with David Stockdale giving away a goal late on. They have been so solid in defence throughout the season that it was a bit out of character.

There was a touch of misfortune in the Newcastle game with the Mo Diame goal, and after that Brighton have perhaps been in a bit of a mini-wobble. For them to stake a claim before the rest of the teams play this weekend and potentially move level with Newcastle is a big opportunity, especially with the pack behind breathing down their necks.

Derby are doing their now-yearly thing of being outside the play-offs, which is frustrating for fans, and it feels like a home win for me. I don't think it will be easy but I think Brighton will take the points.

Prutton predicts: 2-1 (8/1 with Sky Bet)
