James takes County coaching job

Tony James confirms he will take up the role of strength and conditioning coach alongside his current playing responsibilities at Newport.

The 35-year-old defender is enjoying a 17-year-long playing career, which he began as a youth player with West Brom. He moved to County in June 2012 after being released by Burton and helped guide Newport back into the Football League after a 25-year absence as they beat Wrexham 2-0 in last season's Conference play-off final at Wembley. "I have a general interest in the well-being and fitness side of the game for players and being given this added responsibility is a great opportunity to develop this interest," he told the club's official website. "I spoke to the gaffer and the coaching staff along with the physio Adam Roche and it seems a natural fit. "My family and friends have been extremely supportive and I thought long and hard about accepting this post."
