Shrewsbury Town have made an official approach to Partick Thistle to speak to their manager Alan Archibald.
The Sky Bet League One side have been without a manager since Micky Mellon stepped down to take over the vacant position at Tranmere earlier in October.
Now it is understood the Shrews have targeted Archibald as his successor at Greenhous Meadow.
Shrewsbury slipped to the bottom of League One with a 3-0 defeat at home to Sheffield United on Tuesday night and have won just twice in their opening 14 league games.
The club's chief executive officer Brian Caldwell is familiar with the Scottish game having spent more than eight years at Championship club St Mirren before making the move to Shropshire in February this year.
Archibald became Partick Thistle manager in January 2013, guiding the club to the title and securing promotion to the Scottish top flight in his first season.
Speaking on Thursday, 20 October, Archibald said he was flattered by the approach but was happy to stay at Firhill for the present:
"It interests me," he said. "I've said that before. It's something I want to do down the line but I've still got unfinished business here in keeping the team in the division. We've done it the last few seasons. Hopefully we can do it again.
"For now my focus is on Ross County in the Premiership on Saturday."
Thistle are 11th in the Scottish Premiership after eight games this season.
