Experienced striker offered a route back to Serie A

Genoa president Enrico Preziosi has revealed that the club have made an offer to Luca Toni. The experienced striker is keen to find a new employer this summer rather than head back to Bayern Munich. He is still contracted to the German giants until 2011 but no longer figures in Louis van Gaal's plans. Toni spent the second half of last season on loan at Roma and is keen to remain in Serie A. Genoa are well aware that the 33-year-old is likely to have plenty of options, but hope he can be persuaded to move to Stadio Luigi Ferraris. "We have a keen interest in Toni," said Preziosi to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Salaries

"He is a player that has the characteristics of our forwards and we really like him. "We have made an offer but the problem is that we need to look at the numbers. "It's a problem of salaries that are stratospheric. There are things that we cannot afford. "We will see what he decides. "But I insist that we cannot go crazy, we will go up to a certain amount." World Cup winner Toni, who has been left out of Italy's squad heading to South Africa this summer, notched five goals in 15 outings for Roma last term.
