Pep Guardiola salutes Watford's start to the season

Pep Guardiola has revealed centre-back Vincent Kompany is back in training but Saturday's clash with Watford is probably a match too soon.

The 31-year-old skipper has not featured in the Premier League since the 2-1 win at Bournemouth on August 26 and picked up a calf injury playing for Belgium at the end of the month.

City travel to on-song Watford at the weekend on the back of their devastating display in the Champions League in midweek with a 4-0 win at Feyenoord.

Despite training again on Friday, Kompany is unlikely to be available against the Hornets, although he could be recalled for Wednesday's Carabao Cup match at West Brom.

"Vinny played today," Guardiola said on Friday afternoon. "He came back and trained with us. I think for the next days, he will be able to play again."

Guardiola also gave an upbeat assessment on Ederson following the facial injury he suffered in the 5-0 win against Liverpool last Saturday.

The Brazil goalkeeper was stretchered off at the Etihad after a boot to the face from Sadio Mane, who was given a straight red card for the high challenge.

He played in Wednesday night's Champions League win over Feyenoord but was forced to wear protective headwear.

"He still has stitches," Guardiola added. "He made one training session before the game.

"He trained well - of course, he played with a helmet - and he said he wants to play. He's strong."
