Northampton v Bournemouth preview

Image: Sampson: Selection worries

Northampton and Bournemouth are both short on numbers as they prepare to meet in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Cobblers missing several players; Cherries are short

Northampton are set to be without a host of players as they welcome League Two leaders Bournemouth back to Sixfields for their Johnstone's Paint Trophy tie. The Cobblers beat Bournemouth 2-0 at Sixfields back in August but new manager Ian Sampson has a lengthy injury list to contend with for the second meeting. Midfielder Luke Guttridge lasted just 40 minutes of the 2-2 draw with Bradford on Saturday before being replaced but only has a dead leg - not a recurrence of his knee injury as first feared. However, he will not be risked for the cup tie so Alex Dyer should start after scoring as a substitute at the weekend. Striker Courtney Herbert is out after also limping off with a calf injury while left-back Andy Holt is doubtful to be fit thanks to a knee injury. Adebayo Akinfenwa (knee), Dean Beckwith (groin), Liam Davis (foot) and John Curtis (groin) are all also out.

Cherries team news

Cash-strapped League Two leaders Bournemouth are down to the bare bones as they travel to Sixfields. Cherries manager Eddie Howe has an injury-ravaged squad and could only name three substitutes for the goalless draw at Port Vale on Saturday because of the transfer embargo currently placed on the club. Key midfielder Sammy Igoe is ruled out with a knee injury while defender Ryan Garry has been diagnosed with swine flu. Striker Jeff Goulding is still nursing an ankle problem and Marvin Bentley remains on the sidelines with a broken hand. Mark Molesley has a thigh knock and Joe Partington is rated 50/50 with a groin injury as Howe looks for ways to boost the numbers available to him.
