The full time whistle blows and the boos ring out around Carrow Road. Villa owe a lot to Brad Guzan, not just for the penalty save in the first half, and it's a first clean sheet of the season for Paul Lambert's men.
Fer tries to break but plays his pass with far too much power and Guzan gladfully gets the goal kick.
Guzan takes the free kick but fires it straight into the stands and Norwich quickly try to build another attack.
The first card of the day goes to Michael Turner after a late challenge as Villa look to break away.
Some intricate play from Norwich results in a shot on goal from Van Wolfswinkel, which bounces off a couple of Villa defenders and just goes wide.
Martin fires in a cross and Clark can only flick it over the bar for a corner but it's another disappointing one and Guzan can claim it.
It's a nicely worked set-play with Snodgrass pulling it back for Pilkington but he scuffs his shot and Clarke can head it away.
Villa break down the left through Weimann and the ball comes to Tonev, who tries yet another hopeful long-range shot. This one doesn't go over, but flies well wide to the left.
Bacuna sends in a dangerous ball and Norwich can only head it out for a corner on the Villa right. Bacuna will trudge over to take it.
A half-shout for handball as Kozak tries to send in a cross but there's nothing doing. Villa now win a free kick on the left and again the centre backs are sent forward.
Villa doing their best to maintain possession for a while but Norwich are hounding them well and soon have the ball back.
Howson trying to make things tick for the Canaries in the middle of the pitch but the Villa defence has been solid enough so far.
Fer breaks well down the left and sends over a teasing low ball but Van Wolfswinkel is fouling his man in the middle. Free kick to Villa.
Snodgrass whips in another high ball but Guzan is up to the task again as he plucks it out of the air.
Kozak is brought down by Turner around 30 yards from the Norwich goal and Ruddy is organising a wall.
Double change for Norwich, with Gary Hooper for Johan Elmander and Redmond is replaced by Anthony Pilkington.
Norwich very much on top but Delph does really well to run the ball out from the back and set Villa on their way.
Vlaar clears the corner but it comes back in after Snodgrass finds the byline. The ball flicks a Villa man on the way and Guzan makes another very good stop.
Agbonlahor shows good pace but he over runs the ball and Turner can step in. Russel Martin wins a corner after a good break at the other end.
Tonev with another wild attempt at the other end. He comes in from the left side this time but the shot is far too high.
It comes straight back in via the boot of Snodgrass but it's another overhit cross and Guzan claims under no pressure.
Steady build-up from Norwich looks promising but Luna gets the header away as the ball is played into the area.
El Ahmadi does well in the centre for Villa before Agbonlahor finds Weimann but his shot is wayward.
Fer looks to get his foot on the ball but Van Wolfswinkel has crept offside when the pass is sent forward.
Soft free kick awarded to Villa halfway into the Norwich half. The big men go up from the back but Clark fouls Elmander in the box.
Elmander tries to make a run down the middle but the attempted through ball does not find the former Bolton man.
Villa haven't had many touches since the interval and Norwich are patiently trying to build some pressure.
Bennett got on the end of the Snodgrass free kick after Guzan missed it by a long way, but the header goes wide of the post.
Chris has been in touch again, saying: 'Losing Benteke is a huge blow for Aston Villa, but they appear to be performing well without him so far, which is good news if you're a Villa fan. Obviously, Norwich are by no means out of this match yet. However, they're going to have to start taking chances as they have wasted many so far.'
The first half comes to an end and there's been plenty of goal mouth action. The score at the break is Norwich 0 Aston Villa 1.
Corner to Norwich in the final of two additional minutes comes to nothing. They look a little deflated heading into the break.
Redmond tries to bring the first half to a close in style but he ends up shooting from an improbable angle and Chris Hughton isn't happy on the Norwich bench. That was asking to be delivered into the middle.
Snodgrass tries to buck the trend but a bustling run down the right but there's no real penetration and Villa can clear.
Plenty going on the middle of the park now but neither side really establishing dominance at present.
Tonev has another crack at goal but he doesn't catch it properly and it trickles wide of Ruddy's left-hand upright.
Villa showing just how smart they are on the break. They've lost their main marksman but are still offering plenty going forward and Agbonlahor is loving his role 'in the hole'.
Weimann and Kozak link up really well before Agbonlahor's wicked cross has to be parried away by Ruddy.
The game has gone a bit scrappy since the Kozak goal and Weimann is the latest culprit as his attempted cross is mishit and goes straight out for a goal kick.
Redmond not happy as he looks to have won a corner on the left but the decision goes the other way. That wasn't a great call from the referee and his assistant.
GOAL KOZAK! The sub is on the mark. He misses a one-on-one but the ball comes back to Agbonlahor, who cuts it back to Kozak and he doesn't make the same mistake twice.
Kozak is almost straight into the action but he just fails to get onto the end of a cross from the left.
Benteke comes back on but then slumps to the ground and clearly needs to come off. Meanwhile, Van Wolfswinkel sees a fine half-volley fly just wide of the Villa post.
Benteke goes down following a Bassong challenge but he's back on his feet after receiving treatment. The striker limps to the sidelines but he looks OK to continue.
Snodgrass' free kick is met by Van Wolfswinkel but he doesn't get much purchase on it and Guzan is down to collect comfortably.
Free kick to Norwich, who have a chance to get the ball in the box from the left. The foul was on Redmond.
A Norwich break sees the busy Snodgrass make the byline before firing over a cross which is dealt with by Vlaar.
Villa coming back into it and now Tonev has a strike on goal after cutting in from the right. His radar is way off this time, but he had plenty of space which will concern Chris Hughton.
Benteke and Agbonlahor linking up brilliantly before the big Belgian makes half a yard for a shot, which is deflected just wide for a corner.
Luna tries to get in behind down the left but Snodgrass has tracked him back and makes the perfect tackle, winning the a goal kick in the process.
A jinking run from Beneteke on the break and he beats his man before delivering a good cross. He could have done with being on the end of it too as the ball goas harmlessly across the Norwich box.
Snodgrass in the action again as he closes down Luna in the Villa left back position. But Luna wins the throw off the Scotland international.
Villa struggling to get out of their own half for the time being, but we all know are quick they are on the break.
Plenty of chances already and Martin should have done better with his cross from the right. Norwich do win a corner, though. Clark gets the ball away but it's coming straight back.
Some sustained Norwich pressure results in a golden opportunity for Ricky Van Wolfswinkel, who somehow chests the ball over the top from four yards out following a Redmond cross.
Norwich probing down the right now, with Snodgrass and Elmader involved, but the eventual cross is a tame one.
Redmond trying to put more pressure on the Villa goal but Bacuna has his measure this time and plays back to Guzan.
PENALTY SAVED! Snodgrass has his penalty saved brilliantly by Brad Guzan, who dives to his left and fists the ball out of harm's way.
Norwich trying to calm things down with a spell of possession but this is being played at a high tempo and Villa look dagerous.
A serious threat from Villa as Weimann hits the post with a curling effort from the left edge of the box. Benteke has his follow-up effort stopped by Ruddy but the flag was up anyway.
Redmond with a shot at the other end but he's leaning back and the ball flies high and just keeps rising.
Villa with some early pressure and Weimann has an attempt on goal after Agbonlahor bursts down the middle. Ruddy is up the task.
Mike Osbourne prefers the away side, emailing: 'This is gonna be a momentous struggle. I can only see Villa as winners - Benteke at the double! Come on Villa!!!!'

Villa boss Paul Lambert has recalled Ciaran Clark to the centre of his defence for his return to Carrow Road with Jores Okore ruled out for several months. Leandro Bacuna and Aleksandar Tonev have also come in to replace Matt Lowton and Ashley Westwood.
