Ten-man Spireites go through

A clinical display saw 10-man Chesterfield beat Notts County 3-1 to reach the Johnstone's Paint Trophy quarter-finals.

County saw both their centre-halves injured after only 16 minutes, but just as the Spireites threatened to take control, they were rocked by the 22nd-minute dismissal of Lee Johnson for a high challenge on Alan Judge. County had their first shot soon after as skipper Ricky Ravenhill's piledriver forced a save from Greg Fleming. After Dean Morgan tested Stuart Nelson for the first time, County took the lead in the 43rd minute when Karl Hawley turned his marker 25 yards out and curled a stunning shot past Fleming. Chesterfield never looked like a side a man down and after several shots were kept out by a combination of goalkeeper and defence, a partial clearance fell to Mark Randall in the 64th minute, and he fired home from outside the area. And just four minutes later, the visitors were ahead when Randall turned provider and Morgan beat Nelson with a simple finish. Jordan Bowery then wrapped up the win with a predatory 77th-minute strike.
