Neither side could manage a goal but the woodwork was rattled on three occasions as Notts County and Darlington played out an entertaining goalless draw.
Delroy Facey twice went close for County in the early stages but then enterprising Darlington began to rack up the chances.
County goalkeeper Kevin Pilkington had already saved from Billy Clarke and Dave Poole and was fortunate to see a goalbound header from Steve Foster strike Mike Edwards and drift behind.
More good fortune was to follow twice in the space of three minutes in the first period when Pilkington did superbly to touch Clarke's left-foot shot onto the underside of the bar.
Pilkington could later only watch with relief as a fierce drive from Jason Kennedy rebounded from the inside of a post.
County gave as good as they got in the second period and came closest to scoring five minutes after the break when a corner from Matt Hamshaw picked out defender Michael Johnson, but his towering header was turned onto the bar by goalkeeper Simon Brown.
