Oldham v Shrewsbury preview

Image: James Tarkowski: Likely to start

Team news for Wednesday's League One clash between Oldham and Shrewsbury at Boundary Park.

Oldham will have to do without Matteo Lanzoni against Shrewsbury at Boundary Park. The popular centre-back is now out of contract and while Latics boss Lee Johnson wants to keep him, he revealed that others had shown an interest in the Italian, who was forced off in the last game due to a hamstring injury anyway. With Lanzoni out of the picture for the foreseeable future at least, James Tarkowski will, as he did against Coventry on Sunday, probably drop back into the middle of defence after being utilised in midfield of late. Striker Danny Philliskirk (knee ligaments) is nearing a return but the prize of playing at Anfield next Sunday looks a more likely comeback date for him while Charlie MacDonald (thigh), James Wesolowski (head) and James Dayton (ankle) are expected to be missing again. Nicky Wroe returns to contention for Shrewsbury's trip to Oldham on New Year's Day. The on-loan midfielder was ineligible for the 1-0 defeat to parent club Preston on Sunday but is back in the fold for what is the final game of his current agreement before it expires. Midfielder Aaron Wildig made his comeback from a knee injury as a late substitute against North End and he will be pushing to get more minutes under his belt. Boss Graham Turner could well opt to freshen up his ranks for the club's fourth game in 12 days as Shrews look for their first victory since the end of November.
